Michael Benoit

Headshot of researcher Michael Benoit

Dr. Michael Benoit is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Prior to joining Waterloo, Dr. Benoit was an Assistant Professor in the UBC Okanagan School of Engineering.

Dr. Benoit’s research is in the area of materials processing, specifically in the areas of metal additive manufacturing (3D printing) and welding & joining. His research tackles a wide range of challenges, from elucidating fundamental process-structure-property relationships to using additive manufacturing to repair automotive tooling to developing novel benchmark designs to accelerate standardization in additive manufacturing.

When he was an undergraduate student, Dr. Benoit spent two co-op terms as an R&D engineering at battery development company in Cambridge, MA (Ambri).

Dr. Benoit’s research interests include materials processing (processing, structure, properties relationship), additive manufacturing and alloy development (solidification cracking).
