About
Batteries are a vital energy storage tool helping enable the ongoing transition from fossil fuel power to emissions-free electrification. Today, lithium-ion (Li-on) batteries are the most dominant energy storage technology, powering everything from cell phones to electric vehicles and laptops; however, they suffer from limited storage capacity, high cost and safety risks, including fire and explosion.
Researching the future of renewable, clean energy
All-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs) are a novel technology capable of outperforming current batteries. Our research team combines interdisciplinary engineering, chemistry, management, business and policy experts to design and manufacture solid-state batteries, understand environmental, economic and social impacts and explore the feasibility of establishing a local and sustainable battery supply chain with made-in-Canada batteries.
Through our work, we aim to advance technology to create robust and sustainable ASSLBs by focusing on three key areas: technology development, environmental assessment and socio-economic analysis.
